The Walker Area Pregnancy Support Center (Walker PSC) is a non-profit 501c3 mission minded organization with a passion to help moms and dads that are in a crisis situation with an unplanned pregnancy. The work here goes far beyond just a free pregnancy test. We are wanting to support and enhance our area communities for healthier moms, dads and babies. Remember – if we have a healthier mother, we have a healthier baby and that gives way to a healthier community!!
We started out of a prayer vigil called “40 Days for Life” in Fall 2008. The steering committee then was formed, trained and started preparing for the opening of this Pregnancy Support Center in Walker. We were guided/mentored by Terri Hopman and were a satellite of the Lakes Area Pregnancy Support Center, Brainerd. We opened the doors for service in Walker on March 29, 2010. A native American client was in that day and continued through the program for 10 months with a beautiful baby girl added to our community. Soon thereafter, LAPS Director, Terri, started pushing us “out of the nest” and we had filed our own 501c3 status in that Fall. So by 2011 we were on our own and pursuing a pro-woman, pro-baby, pro-family work in this Leech Lake area.
Our services are all free of charge and confidential and consist of Pregnancy Tests, Education on pregnancy, abortion and life affirming alternatives; Referrals: medical care, legal assistance, professional counseling, human services and social services; Incentive program – an educational program designed to equip clients for parenting, while also providing them with needed baby equipment; Maternity/Baby clothing and items; Dad’s Program; Forgiven and Set Free – a post abortive support group.
The Walker PSC is affiliated with Care Net in which over 1,200 Center exists in our country. We are a locally organized and funded service ministry with a local Board of Directors, currently being Deb Frazee, Gary McEnelly, Charlie Rich, Mary Tiedeman, Priscilla Marlette and Lisa Boie, Executive Director. We are always looking for volunteers, such as Client Advocates, Receptionists, and Board Members to help in the day to day work at the Center. If you would be interested in serving as a volunteer in this capacity, please call: 218-547-5433, or email: email@example.com and visit with Lisa for more information.
Also as a non–profit, faith based organization – the Center does an Annual Fundraising Banquet as their main support event for their year’s budget. It will be Tues. April 30, 2013 at the Northern Lights Convention Center with Speaker, Broadcaster and Writer, Kim Ketola presenting. We would love for you to attend this year as our guest and hear message of hope and healing. We also do a baby bottle fundraiser in which bottles go out on Mother’s Day and are collected with change, dollars and checks on Father’s Day. A golf event has been started and we would like to grow this area into a larger source fundraiser. We have participated and volunteered ourselves with the Leech Lake Walleye Tournament in which a generous gift was given back to the work of our Walker PSC. We are always looking for donors, grants and foundation gifts to get involved with this work and support our cause.
Lisa, the Director, would be happy to meet and present the work of the Center in our Walker area to other service groups, churches looking to understand and further get involved with this wonderful work here in the our area. We strive to support women, men and babies for service in a 30 miles radius of Walker.
